Gen AI ARchive

It Is Time to Archive AI

Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, and Large Language Models (LLMs) are fundamentally reshaping how humanity creates and shares knowledge. To document this evolution, the University of St. Gallen and Internet Archive Switzerland partner in preserving today’s most profound models for future generations in the Gen AI Archive.

As Gen AI models continue to evolve, older versions might disappear or change. The Gen AI Archive preserves snapshots of these AI models, including how they respond to questions, what they know, and how they behave. By doing this, the archive creates a collective memory for AI. It helps researchers, policymakers, and the public to understand how AI is changing over time, and enables long-term research into their bias, reasoning, and societal impact.

Internet Archive Switzerland is proud to support this initiative of Prof. Dr. Damian Borth of the School of Computer Science at the University of St.Gallen. The Gen AI Archive will be another crucial resource for today's and tomorrow's understanding of our collective knowledge.
